As far as I'm concerned, any website that can't, at the very least, provide real information about the topic being searched (in this case, queries with the terms 'enlarge penis male enlargement penile growth fitness exercise natural penise pill enlargment techniques penis size etc....), have no business being included in the search results for that term.

At least that is the way it is supposed to be, but unfortunately the less scrupulous penis enlargement pill and male enhancement product sites seem to get away with it by spamming the search engines.

Impotence, or penile erectile dysfunction, is the repeated inability to have or maintain an erection.

Who Does Erectile Dysfunction Affect

The condition affects roughly 1 in 10 men between the ages of 21 and 75. In up to 75% of all cases, the cause is physical.

Impotence is associated with a range of conditions including high cholesterol levels, drugs used to treat high blood pressure and diabetes, however there is strong evidence to demonstrate that the effects of all physical factors are made worse by smoking.

Effects of Smoking on Male Impotence

Smoking increases the risk of erectile dysfunction by around 50% for men in their 30s and 40s. Diabetes, high cholesterol levels and drugs used to treat high blood pressure are also important risk factors.

Mechanism of the Effects of Smoking on Erectile Dysfunction in Men...

During an erection, large quantities of blood flows under pressure into the penile arteries. This causes the veins which drain the penis to become compressed, thus preventing the immediate outflow of blood. This process is significantly impaired by smoking.

1. Less blood flows into the penis if the inflow route is blocked by long term build-up of fatty deposits in the arteries (atherosclerosis) caused, in part, by smoking.
2. Rapid contractions in penile tissue, a direct and immediate result of nicotine stimulation in the brain, restrict arterial blood flow into the penis. This is known as acute vasospasm.
3. The valve mechanism that traps blood in the penis is impaired as a result of nicotine in the blood stream. This is known as venous dilation.

Polling undertaken by MORI for ASH in March 1999 reveals that only 12% of smokers (13% men, 11% women) name smoking as a cause of male impotence. the fact is, that several of the more than 4,000 chemicals that have been identified in cigarette smoke are implicated in damage to the vascular (circulatory) system. These include carbon monoxide, nicotine and 1,3-butadiene.

Erectile Dysfunction and Systemic Arterial Damage

Damage to the arteries and veins supplying the penis, is simply a manifestation of systemic arterial damage.

Smoking Significant Increase for Risk of Male Impotence (Erectile Dysfunction)

Evidence suggests that cigarette smoking significantly increases other risk factors for impotence. A study of 1,290 men who had received treatment for impotence in Massachusetts, USA, showed that smokers were over twice as likely to become impotent as non-smokers (56% compared with 21%).

Increased Risk of Complete Impotence Among Smoking Men

Cigarette smoking was also associated with a significantly greater likelihood of complete impotence in men with high blood pressure (hypertension), heart disease and arthritis. Smoking does not therefore, merely add to other risk factors, but compounds them significantly.

It is now clear that smokers are more likely to develop impotence in just the same way that they develop heart disease - if they can stop smoking, there is every chance that they will prolong normal sexual function.

Asking someone to quit smoking is like asking them to move mountains. In fact for some, moving mountains is far more realistic a request than quitting smoking.

As a smoker of some 34 years and counting, it is difficult to believe and even harder to admit that I have seriously (and at times half-heartedly) been trying to quit smoking now for more than 20 of those years. During this time, I have lost many a smoking companion. Oh ya, some just quit the habit, but then some just up and died!

In my efforts to quit, there have actually been periods of time without smoking and periods of time enjoying the occasional 'social smoke' without the erge to run out and buy a pack.

To this day I don't smoke in the mornings and I don't smoke at work, which means there is a long period of time each day that is smoke free. But in the end, I am still a smoker, albeit a less than a pack a day smoker, and a whole lot less than the two pack a day habit I used to beat myself up with, but none the less still a smoker!

So, thinking an extra couple of hundred bucks a month to indulge myself in worldly pleasures would be nice, I find myself revisiting the idea of quitting smoking all together.

Having learned from experience that quitting smoking takes more than simply pondering the thought, I've decided to offer the following as a repentance of my smoking sins in the hope that perhaps it may entice just one smoking soul to hang up the habit forever!

As the anti-smoking propaganda can attest to, there are many reasons to quit smoking. The main one is your health. Statistically speaking, if you smoke then you're likely to die of smoking related causes.

Most of us are so far in denial about our smoking that we actually make a jokes about it. It's like a competition to the end, and it's the liver versus the lungs.

The thing is though, when you realize that there are over 4000 different chemicals in a cigarette, many of them highly carcinogenic (they even include a little embalming fluid to get you started), you quickly realized that it isn't much of a race.

Hmmm, now that I think about it, they probably are. These tobacco companies are mammoth in size, and are involved in far more than just cigarettes. Ooops, did I just think the work conspiracy....

Nicotine Gum: A convenient quit smoking aid that provides you with a little shot of nicotine to curb the cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Nicotine is not the harmful part of the cigarette, it is just the addictive part. It is recommended that you discontinue nicotine gum after 3 months. Personally, nicotine gum makes me gag and makes my throat feel weird, but others I know swear by it. My own doctor, for instance, says he's been chewing it for the past 5 years, so take it for what it's worth.

Nicotine Patch: The nicotine patch provides you with higher doses of nicotine, and is designed to slowly reduce the dosage thus weaning you off the addiction. There are 18 and 24-hour versions of the nicotine patch. The 24-hour version is apparently more effective, but can cause minor insomnia. Some people experience wild dreams and vivid nightmares when wearing the patch to bed.

Nicotine Lozenges: These work like nicotine gum, and also make my mouth and throat feel more than just a little weird. A word of advice, don't chain-suck nicotine lozenges, cause you'll experience nausea or heartburn.

Nicotine Inhalers: These plastic cigarette-shaped inhalers come in two forms: one with a little cartridge of nicotine to suck on when the craving hits, and another version with a menthol cartridge in it that mimics the harsh feeling of inhaling smoke on your throat.
